Welcome

The Rollo May Center for Humanistic Studies is part of Saybrook's commitment to deepen the study of the human experience. Created in 1986 to honor Rollo May, the Center advances the ideas of Dr. May and supports scholarship consistent with his enduring contributions to our understanding of the human experience.

The Center supports humanistic inquiry that addresses such qualities as creativity, abstract and conceptual thinking, artistic expression, love, will, emotions, spirituality, and the dark side of human nature.

The Center's work is done through three avenues:

  • scholarships, available to Saybrook students
  • the Rollo May Award, which is presented biennially to an individual who exemplifies the values of Dr. May and the Center
  • lectures and seminars
