Two faculty members from Saybrook’s College of Mind-Body Medicine will attend the annual meeting of The Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis (SCEH) in Toronto, October 10-14.   SCEH is a national organization of mental health and health professionals dedicated to the highest level of scientific inquiry and the conscientious application of hypnosis in the clinical setting.

MBM faculty members Donald Moss and Eric Willmarth will attend the Toronto meeting.  (The accompanying photo shows Moss and Willmarth with their spouses at another recent conference).  Drs. Moss and Willmarth will conduct a two part workshop on October 11, with the morning focused on the integration of hypnosis and biofeedback therapies for chronic pain, and the afternoon focused on medical and psychological applications of heart rate variability biofeedback.

Dr. Moss will present a piece of historical research on Erwin Straus, a European phenomenological psychiatrist, who investigated the relationship dimensions of suggestion. Moss will also serve as a facilitator in the intermediate training workshops in clinical hypnosis. Moss is the Treasurer for SCEH, and Willmarth is the SCEH liaison to APA Division 30, so both will participate in the organization’s board meeting. Both Moss and Willmarth have been honored as Fellows of SCEH.

Through workshops, lectures, publication of the International Journal for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis (IJCEH), and other teaching activities of SCEH, members educate health care professionals, academicians, researchers, students and the general public about the nature and ethical uses of hypnosis and related phenomena.

Student membership in SCEH is $45.00 per year, and includes access to full-text articles for past 50 years of International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis, as well as access to the American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis.  The website is at:  www.sceh.us
