Enjoyed your writing. You have posited some interesting thoughts. I had not heard of the Ural Mountain deaths. They are indeed a very puzzling mystery and like you say, one that likely will never be solved. It is also a thought provoking proposition that uncertainty is unnerving and mystery is enchanting. I'm thinking it may be due to the "ownership" of the unknown. Our own uncertainties can be distressing and therefore unwanted. They are directed inward. Our attempt to understand mysteries is directed outward, usually, therefore not as threatening.
