Clinical Psychology
Saybrook’s graduate programs in clinical psychology are specifically focused on the knowledge, experience, and practical skills you will need to directly enter the profession as a licensed therapist. The Clinical Psychology PhD program and MA-MFT program include core courses, hands-on training at conferences, and close mentoring from faculty who are active and experienced in the field.
From private practice to school districts, from the military to humanitarian groups, a clinical psychology degree from Saybrook gives you a sought after credential and places you within a tradition of excellence on the cutting edge.
Psychology at Saybrook goes beyond the mechanics of the body and brain - neurotransmitters and MRI images - to focus on a holistic view of the "patient" as a human being. Contemporary clinical research – in the form of analyses and meta-analyses of thousands of scientific studies on psychotherapy – continues to confirm that personal and interpersonal dimensions of psychotherapy are at the heart of therapeutic effectiveness. Psychology at Saybrook embraces the idea that a person-to-person connection is key to therapy.
Saybrook supports students who want to be part of this movement. Recognized as one of the world’s leading centers for scholarship in humanistic psychology, our faculty are active in practice as well as academia. They have the extensive experience as providers of mental health care needed to help aspiring therapists navigate the world of insurance regulations and licensing procedures while remaining true to their goals of being psychologists who support the whole person.
