Originally founded as the Humanistic Psychology Institute in 1971 (and known for more than three decades as Saybrook Graduate School and Research Center), the College of Psychology and Humanistic Studies has been the world’s premier educational institution dedicated to humanistic scholarship for nearly 40 years. It has been the intellectual home for a generation of scholars who sought to make a difference in the world through practice, and for practitioners who sought to take their work to the next level through education.

Faculty mentoring is a distinguishing feature of our approach. Our students are assigned a faculty mentor when they begin their studies. Your faculty mentor assists and supports you in the achievement of your goals, provides a connection to your chosen discipline, connects you with other faculty, and works with your advisor and Academic Services Coordinator to ensure your academic needs and expectations are fulfilled.

Many of our degree programs are non-cohort based, providing students the flexibility to tailor their coursework to their professional interests. Our programs facilitate student learning through online work at a distance, personal engagement as members of our learning community, and face-to-face learning in a variety of residential formats.
