Registrar FAQ's
How do I
update my personal info (address, phone number, email, etc.)?
To change your personal
information, contact your Enrollment
Services Coordinator.
How can I
get a transcript?
Go to the Transcript
Request page and download the form.
What is SMS?
SMS (Student Management System) is an information management
program with updates in real time where students and faculty
can interact on an administrative level. Students must use
SMS sign up for courses, drop courses, and monitor their academic
progress. Professors can track their workload and evaluate
students' coursework.
What
is my username?
Your username is typically the initial of your first name
and your full last name. For example, John Doe's username
would likely be "jdoe". If you cannot remember your
username or password, please contact your Enrollment
Services Coordinator.
Why isn't
my transfer credit showing up on SMS?
Transfer credit
is posted before the end of your first semester. The process
may be somewhat protracted if it is not readily apparent that
coursework you completed at another institution is equivalent
to Saybrook courses. Contact your Enrollment
Services Coordinator if you have questions about the specifics
of your transfer credit.
What
is an Online Class?
Courses that are
highlighted in red and whose course numbers are preceeded
by the "OL" designation on the Registration list
are Online Classes. These courses are presented to
students in a group format using a program called eCollege.
How do I find eCollege and log in?
You must first login to the Saybrook website. Click the
"eCollege" link in the left menu under "Learning". Once at the eCollege site use your same Saybrook
username and password to login.
I just registered
for an Online Class and I can't log into eCollege. What's
wrong?
After you register
for an Online Class in SMS, you will not be able to log into
eCollege until the course registration is updated to the
eCollege program, which usually takes about one working
day.
How
do I register for a course?
1) Log into SMS
2) Click "Course Registration"
3) Choose the course
and instructor
4) Click "Register"
5) Go to your Academic
History page to verify that you are in the course.
You may also directly
register for courses after perusing/finding them under "Course
List" on the SMS main menu.
Note: certain
courses and instructors require instructor permission. These
courses will go onto a request list that you can view on your
Academic History. The instructor is automatically notified
when you request such a course and they must then approve/deny
the the request themselves on SMS.
How do I drop a course?
1) Click "Academic History" on the SMS main menu
2) Select the course(s)
you wish to drop by placing a checkmark in the appropriate
box on your current course workload
3) Click the "Drop
Selected" bar at the bottom of your current course workload
Is there
any penalty for dropping a course?
Courses can be dropped
at any time in a semester with no penalty.
How do I register for an Independent
Study?
The process is primarily the same as registering for any other
course. Select course #8100 from the drop-down
menu on the "Course Registration" page, then fill
out the information required on the study proposal. You will
have approximately 20 minutes to fill out the proposal before
SMS times out, so work quickly. You may want to have the items
needed for the proposal prepared in advance of registering
for the course.
When you complete
the proposal and click "Register", the form is forwarded
to the professor you selected and you will see course #8100
in the "Requested" column on your Academic History.
The professor must then approve/deny your request in SMS.
When approved, the course automatically moves onto your current
course workload.
How can I view my final evaluation
for a course I have completed?
1) Click "Student Manage" on the SMS main menu
2) Click on the
"Assignments" link
3) Select the semester
you wish to view and click on the "Refresh" bar
next to it
4) Click on the
course you wish to view
I'm not finished
with a course and need more time. Can I get an extension?
Extensions are not
available. However, there is no penalty for dropping and re-registering
a course when the next semester begins.
How many
units do I need to complete to meet satisfactory academic
progress requirements?
Satisfactory academic progress is achieved by completing 9
units by the end of your first academic year (two semesters)
and 12 units each subsequent year.
What will
happen if I don't make satisfactory academic progress?
Failure to make
satisfactory academic progress will result in a status of
academic probation, which could jeopardize your financial
aid eligibility.
