The Saybrook Scholar–Practitioner

Saybrook scholar-practitioners relate scholarship and research to action and to practice – joining “the library and the street” in service to a humane and sustainable world. Our programs contribute to practice in a broad range of professional settings that include  educational, clinical, social service, political, ecological, business, and organizational settings.

Our students come with varying interests and goals regarding their work and future. Some come to deepen knowledge and skills related to an existing profession or practice, some to find deeper meaning in it, some to enrich it through the application of scholarly knowledge leading to new insights, and still others to redirect their work to new areas.

Our students also come with varying degrees of interest in scholarship and research, or applied practice. Some emphasize developing skills for a future of engagement in scholarship and research that contributes to their professional growth; others emphasize preparing for a future in applied practice with their scholarship and research informing that practice.
