The four steps to getting financial aid:
Applying for Financial Aid is surprisingly easy, and we’re here to help. Here’s all you have to do:
1. Fill Out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid
If you are interested in applying for financial aid you must complete and submit a Free Application of Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to apply for federal student aid and most state and college aid. FAFSA on the Web is the quickest and easiest method of applying. You can submit an electronic application via the internet at fafsa.ed.gov. Be sure to enter the Saybrook University's School code: G21206. Renew your FAFSA once a year by filing the FAFSA or the Renewal FAFSA. We recommend that you complete your financial aid application no later than 90 days prior to the beginning of the relevant semester of enrollment.
2. The Verification Process (Required Documents)
Once your FAFSA has been submitted to the processor, you the student will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR). Read the SAR carefully for messages regarding your application status and database matches to identify any outstanding requirements. Students may also receive requests for documentation directly from the Saybrook University Financial Aid Office via email. Please respond to our request promptly. A delay in resolution of a federal edit will delay the processing of your financial aid.
3. Receive Your Award Letter
Your award will be emailed to you once you have been accepted into a degree program at Saybrook University and we have a valid FAFSA output document on file and if required any other requested documents from the financial aid office. Please note that the award letter spells out the cost of attendance which is based on the program of study you are in and the types of financial aid/amounts that you have been awarded. You will also receive the “Understanding your Award Letter Brochure” to assist you with understanding the award as well as instructions on how you apply for the loans or any other aid that you have been awarded.
4. Maintain Your Eligibility
All students must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress to continue to receive financial aid. It is important to maintain enrollment level of at least half-time status each semester in order to receive most forms of most financial aid, as well as to maintain loan deferment. Remember that students who are enrolled in less than half-time are not eligible to receive loan funds. Eligibility for financial aid, including any funds from federal, statue, or university aid programs are required to make measurable progress towards your degree in order to retain eligibility for federal/university aid programs. Refer to the SAP information in the school catalog for more details.
