Biography

I received my Masters of Counseling and PhD in Counselor Education at Idaho State University in Meridian, Idaho. I have worked previously as a Teaching Assistant at Idaho State University, for faculty at Messiah College, and as Adjunct Faculty at Idaho State University.

I first became interested in the field of counseling when I started work with children and adolescents in outdoor therapeutic settings. My diverse background includes: starting a Forest Schools program with at-risk children in the woodlands of England, leading wilderness therapy groups in the deserts of Idaho, and caring for teens in an adolescent shelter home. Most recently, my clinical passion has been with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse, LGBTQ youth and young adults, and refugee children and their families. I am EMDR trained and hold additional certification in traumatology.

My areas of scholarly interest include Q methodology and mixed methods, trauma competency in counselors, trauma recovery, and integrating neurobiology into the field of counseling and counselor education. My dissertation focused on counselor educators' perspectives on teaching trauma in counselor education. I am also fortunate to be the founding secretary of the Idaho division of ALGBTIC.
