Joanne L. Smikle, PhD has served as a consultant and leadership educator for more than twenty years. She has distinguished herself in the field by developing mastery of both the theory and the practice of organization development. She offers a full range of interventions: consulting, leadership education, organizational analyses, strategic planning, and facilitation. Her clients include Dow Louisiana FCU, Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center, Vectorworks, American Academy of Neurology, American Honda Motor Co., American Health Care Association, Florida Society of Association Executives, Environmental Protection Agency, Fannie Mae, Utah Health Care Association, California Society of Association Executives, and many other notable organizations.
Her approach to learning is interactive and engaging. She uses case studies, assessments and experiential learning to maximize the impact and value of her the education process. Joanne's clients benefit greatly from her understanding of the principles and best practices of comprehensive leadership development, particularly her mastery of the processes required to systematically design highly customized learning experiences utilizing experiential modalities. Joanne conducts executive education with senior leaders in both the public and private sectors. She is delighted to be a member of the Saybrook University faculty.
She is committed to contributing to the body of usable knowledge for lifelong learners in business, industry and government. Joanne delivers keynotes and concurrent sessions for the national and international conferences of government agencies, corporations and associations. Her presentations are informed by her research-based consulting experience.
While consulting and faculty responsibilities keeps Joanne quite busy, she makes time for community engagement. She is on the Board of Directors of Bridges to Housing Stability in Columbia, Maryland. This twenty-five year old organization works to serve the homeless and those at risk of losing their shelter. She is a member of the Executive Alliance (EA), a Maryland-based organization that advances the aims of women in the workforce. She is an active member of the Effective Impact Mentoring Committee of EA.
Joanne's favorite activities include cooking---she makes a mean gumbo---baking, and entertaining in her home. She loves travel, reading mysteries, and shopping for antiques
