Paula Froehle

Lead, Social Impact Media Specialization

A film director, visual artist, educator and entrepreneur, Paula leads the Social Impact Media Specialization of the Transformative Social Change Program. She is the CEO & Co-founder of Chicago Media Project, where she guides 50+ members in the philanthropic support of social impact documentary films. Based on a Community Model of Philanthropy, CMP bundles membership donations to provide support for documentary filmmakers while providing engaging programming for CMP's members. In addition to CMP NFP, she oversees the CMP Invest/Impact equity fund which provides equity investments in documentary films. She is a member of the Gamechanger film fund, whose mission is to finance and produce feature films directed by women. Gamechanger financed films include LAND HO! (Sundance 2014), THE INVITATION, FRESNO and LOVESONG, which premiered at Sundance 2016.

Prior to CMP, Paula was the Founding Academic Dean of Tribeca Flashpoint Media Arts Academy, where she developed and implemented an intensive, immersive degree program in filmmaking, recording arts, graphic design, animation, and game design. She led a team of 70 staff members for over 7 years, from the founding of the institution through final accreditation and awarding of Bachelor degrees. Prior to TFA, she was a tenured faculty member in Film at Columbia College Chicago.

As a filmmaker she has directed over 12 films and 20+ media projects, including THE SHOW MUST GO ON: AN INTIMATE PORTRAIT OF THE FLYING WALLENDAS, which premiered at the Sarasota Film Festival and is distributed by MVD. As an entrepreneur she has been involved in the founding of several startups including Opal Pictures design & film production company (2004-pres), Tribeca Flashpoint Media Arts Academy (2007-2014), and Atavistic Chicago (1988-2006).
