Alumna Teresa Bailey, PhD '96 published an article in Child Neuropsychology, the only peer-reviewed journal devoted exclusively to child and adolescent developmental neuropsychology.
Her lead article was an invited review. Its focus is a description of central auditory processing in children and adolescents, how children with auditory processing disorders can be misdiagnosed with attention disorders, and the role of auditory processing in reading and language disorders.
AUDITORY PATHWAYS AND PROCESSES: IMPLICATIONS FOR NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT AND DIAGNOSIS OF CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS
Neuroscience research on auditory processing pathways and their behavioral and electrophysiological correlates has taken place largely outside the field of clinical neuropsychology. Deviations and disruptions in auditory pathways in children and adolescents result in awell-documented range of developmental and learning impairments frequently referred forneuropsychological evaluation. This review is an introduction to research from the lastdecade. It describes auditory cortical and subcortical pathways and processes and relatesrecent research to specific conditions and questions neuropsychologists commonly encounter. Auditory processing disorders’ comorbidity with ADHD and language-based disorders andresearch addressing the challenges of assessment and differential diagnosis are discussed.
Dr. Bailey presented a 3-hour continuing education workshop based on this paper at the 2010 American College of Professional Neuropsychology annual meeting in Las Vegas.
She is currently in private practice, performing life-span neuropsychological and psychological evaluations in Los Altos, CA, and is an adjunct faculty member at Pacific Graduate School of Psychology at Palo Alto University, in Palo Alto, CA, where she teaches assessment and psychodynamic psychotherapy courses.

Data driven, criteria-based science on dream-like experiences, spiritual emergence processes, and the Jungian concept of synchronicity is presented in a hermeneutic literature review and multiple case studies, based on a recent dissertation from Saybrook University, San Francisco. The article covers as well some of the experiential and personal accounts of the above phenomena according to the study participants, and certain philosophical and theoretical aspects of Jungian hermeneutics.

POINT IN TIME™ THERAPEUTIC TECHNIQUE TO RECALL, DECODE AND HEAL TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCES
A retrospective study of multiple cases was conducted to examine whether a therapeutic interview guide used as an intervention tool would facilitate changes in beliefs, behavior and attitudes. The intervention was intended to help clients modify fixed beliefs that perpetuate self-destructive patterns of behavior and was conceptualized as “rewriting the code” or “recoding” behavior. The technique of “a point in time™” regression was utilized to access memories of a traumatic experience that occurred at different stages.

Moving Dreams Off the Bed and Onto the Couch: The Importance of Dreamwork when Working with the Whole Person
Bring a dream to this workshop! People spend roughly one third of their lives asleep. The average number of dreams that humans have each night is about four to six. Yet many humanistic therapists rarely, if ever, discuss their clients’ dreams with them. Why should this be the case?
Recent research strongly indicates that dreams reflect waking concerns and experiences. Sadly, and often, when a client presents a dream the therapist deflects the conversation to waking events in the person's life or confesses to her client that she does not work with client dreams. Part of the reason for this is that therapists usually have not received adequate, if any, training on how to work with dreams in clinical settings. Unfortunately, the majority of graduate psychology schools in this country do not have even one class devoted to the topics of dreams, dreaming. and dreamwork. This seems odd when one reflects on the founding fathers of psychology Freud, Jung, and Adler, who recognized the importance of dreams.
This presentation will offer participants practical skills to work with dreams in clinical settings. Attendees will become familiar with the seven- step Ullman method and have the opportunity to work on a dream in a group to become familiar with the Ullman process.
This presentation will explore the value of working with dreams, while offering an addressing various humanistic approaches on how to work with clients when they bring dreams to the therapeutic setting. The dreamwork methods that will be discussed are: the Ullman method, the gestalt method, and the focusing method. Suggestions will be made on how to work with dreams both on an individual level and in a group setting.
