Alta Leneé Cook-Braxton, Psy.D., M.S., RYT, PES has danced since she learned to walk. Born in Hollywood, CA (a worldwide dance hub) and raised in Durham, NC (home of the American Dance Festival), movement is a part of Leneé's spirit.
In 1991, Leneé was recruited by former UNC-Chapel Hill Cheer Coach (Don Collins) to join the first All-Star Competitive Cheer Squad in North Carolina. In 1996, Leneé again made history as the youngest captain for the Inaugural NFL Carolina Panthers Cheerleader Squad. Dr. Cook-Braxton obtained her Bachelor's in Dance from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, her first Master's Degree in Exercise Science with a focus on Sport Psychology from Penn West University (fka California University of Pennsylvania), her second Master's Degree in Mind-Body Medicine from Saybrook University, and her Doctor of Psychology focusing on Christian Counseling from Breyer State Theology University. She is a 200-Hour RYT Certified and Registered Yoga Teacher, a NASM® Certified Performance Enhancement Specialist, a Certified Pilates Instructor, a Certified Exhale Barre Instructor, and trained in the Club Pilates, Peak, Polestar, and STOTT Pilates Methods.
In 2024, Dr. Cook-Braxton was appointed as the inaugural Chief Wellness Officer for the Global Flag Football League™ (GFFL), in anticipation of Flag Football debuting as an Olympic Sport at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, CA. Dr. Cook-Braxton serves as a member of the Association for Applied Sport Psychology, American College of Sports Medicine, the Clinical Exercise Physiology Association, North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity, the Performing Arts Medicine Association, the National Council on Aging, and serves as an Editorial Board Member for the Uniscience Journal of Psychology and Neuroscience. She was twice nominated as "Best Barre Instructor" in Best Self Atlanta Magazine. In 2020, Dr. Cook-Braxton was selected as one of the five Inaugural Struct Scholars through Struct Club and the Women In Fitness Association. Through her partnership with Varsity Brands, Dr. Cook-Braxton serves as a Mental Health, Mental Performance, and Mindfulness Consultant and Speaker, where she has the pleasure of creating and facilitating educator empowerment summits and programs for thousands of coaches, educators, and students. As a Senior Columnist for The Los Angeles Tribune, Dr. Cook-Braxton publishes articles about notable individuals in the arts, entertainment, and sports worlds. In 2019, Dr. Cook-Braxton appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Network as a contributor to a program focused on Health and Wellness for women of color. Appointed as a G100 State Chair, Dr. Cook-Braxton serves globally to create opportunities for women worldwide. Dr. Cook-Braxton mentors new Mind-Body Medicine and Integrative Social Work graduate students at Saybrook University as an Adjunct Faculty Member and MBSI Facilitator.
