John P. Duggan, Ed.D., LPC, LCPC, LSATP (he/him/his) is an Adjunct Faculty member with Saybrook University. John holds a Doctor of Education in Counselor Education and Supervision (CACREP), and also earned a Master of Arts in Theology (Spirituality Cognate), a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology (CACREP), and a Bachelor of Science in Communication. John holds professional licenses from the boards of counseling in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia (inactive).
John has collaborated with hospitals, clinics, schools, mission-based communities, and professional organizations for nearly three decades. Social justice, advocacy, equity, and ethical concerns continue to direct his work as an educator, supervisor, and consultant. John collaborated with the American Counseling Association (ACA) as a consultant and employee for nearly eight years. He also supported practitioner consultations, led instructional design initiatives, and produced award-winning educational programs for the association.
Dr. Duggan serves as co-chair for the ACA Research and Knowledge Committee (2024-27), among other professional and service activities. John also volunteers to support individuals with brain injury while in acute rehabilitation.
Dr. Duggan was honored with the 2025 Association for Humanistic Counseling (AHC) Humanistic Educator Award and the 2025 American Counseling Association Professional Development Award for a decade of service to enhance national and global professional continuing education. AHC also recognized John with the AHC Humanistic Supervisor Award (2022), and the Maryland Counseling Association (MCA) honored John with the MCA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023.
