Dr. Meeker serves as Lead of the Peace and Justice Specialization within Saybrook's Transformative Social Change Program. She teaches courses including ethics, conflict resolution, and gender and society. She has taught peace studies and conflict resolution for the past two decades at institutions including Syracuse University (NY), Colgate University (NY), Northland College (WI), and Sonoma State University (CA). Transdiscplinary in training and practice, she has also taught within psychology, environmental studies, gender studies, and sociology departments. Joy has a Masters degree from the University of Notre Dame in Peace Studies where she was an international fellow, and a PhD from the California Institute for Integral Studies in Transformative Learning and Change. A scholar practitioner, Joy has also been a conflict practitioner for two decades, including founding and coordinating several campus mediation centers. She has a rich conflict training experience, and has trained hundreds of university and high school students in mediation, nonviolence, diversity, and sexual harassment prevention. She also serves as a nonviolence trainer for people who are incarcertated.
