Biography

Dr. Laota is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and counselor educator dedicated to advancing multicultural, trauma-informed, and social justice oriented counseling practice. She earned her PhD in Counseling and Counselor Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and has served as faculty at the University of Cincinnati and Campbell University, where she has taught across the counseling curriculum, including courses in multicultural counseling, addictions, counseling techniques, diagnosis, career counseling, and clinical fieldwork.

Her professional background spans higher education, clinical practice, and international humanitarian projects, with a focus on preparing counselors to work effectively across diverse communities. Clinically, she specializes in trauma and grief, with experience serving refugee populations and integrating clients' spirituality into the healing process when desired. She is especially passionate about mentorship, supporting emerging clinicians, and bridging theory with practice. When not teaching, Dr. Laota is engaged in community-based work, creative pursuits, and growing her counseling practice.
