Our online certification in Stress Management Education explores the physical, psychological, cultural, and spiritual impact of stress, from those operating at the highest levels of human performance to those in need of relief from day-to-day pressure. Within the Stress Management Education Certificate online curriculum, you will study the physiological foundations of stress, stress measurement, stress management interventions, and basic coaching skills. Additionally, you will participate in interactive learning experiences where you will practice these skills. Program Components
Admissions Requirements
Applicants who are Saybrook students in good standing may register for this certificate through the registrar as an addition to their current curriculum. Saybrook students in good standing are not required to submit additional documents for application. Saybrook student applicants for the certificate must be master’s or doctoral students in any Saybrook University master’s or doctoral program.
New students and students at large who possess at least a bachelor’s degree are eligible to enroll in the Stress Management Education Certificate program. To apply for this program, new students and students at large will need to provide the following:
- Professional resume or CV
- Official transcript from an accredited bachelor’s degree or master’s degree program
- Personal statement
It is preferred, but not required, that applicants have some professional experience relevant to stress management education.

Sample Courses
Fundamentals of Psychophysiology
This three-credit course explores the manifold ways the brain and body work together to produce behavior and the cycle between behavior and physiology. The course begins with a description of the body’s organizational structure and genetics as related to behavior. The basic physiological ways information is received from the external and internal environments through a variety of sensors and then processed by the hormonal/nervous system are described. Typical psychophysiological dysfunctions and interventions are also described.
Evidence-Based Coaching
This three-credit course presents a comprehensive overview of the foundational coaching competencies and skills as defined by the International Coach Federation (ICF), National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC), and Center for Credentialing and Education (Board Certified Coach). Throughout the duration of the course, students will learn about the similarities and differences between coaching, counseling, and consulting, apply the coaching framework and skills to facilitate effective coaching conversations and processes, and more.
Basic Training and Education in Biofeedback
This three-credit course provides students with a basic skill set to conduct simple biofeedback interventions, along with knowledge about biofeedback concepts and approaches, and a familiarity with research-based applications of biofeedback to common medical and behavioral disorders. This course provides students with an introductory level of understanding helpful for engaging in biofeedback-based clinical practice and psychophysiological research in integrative health.

University Learning Experience
Our Stress Management Education Certificate program is a 100% online program. While the core of this program is completed asynchronously, there are some optional synchronous, online features designed to deepen your educational experience. We call this a Virtual Learning Experience (VLE). In addition to the VLEs, you will begin your studies with a virtual Welcome Week. Welcome Week activities, including a program orientation, are held online during the week before the start of Fall and Spring semesters. In-person Community Learning Experiences (CLE) are also available for you to explore. CLEs are held every odd-numbered year. They are optional and not required to complete the program.
